Sound Start Program
Early Intervention For Infants And Toddlers With Hearing Loss

It begins with babies ...

Overview
For more than twenty years the Sound Start Program has been teaching deaf and hard of hearing babies (birth to three years of age) to listen, speak, and communicate. When hearing loss was identified and children received appropriate amplification and intervention by the age of six months, children are likely to demonstrate language scores commensurate with their hearing peers by the age of five. Professionals with the Sound Start Program also teach and support parents with classes held at Lake Drive School in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey.

Funding for early intervention services in N.J. is not adequate to provide the intensity and diversity of services to prepare children to enter school ready to learn. The Lake Drive Foundation was established by community volunteers with the sole purpose to raise money for The Sound Start Program. Money raised is used to provide direct services to fifty babies and toddlers from eleven counties in New Jersey
