About Us

About Us. . .

The goals of Briarcliff Library Media Center are to:

  • Provide a collection of instructional materials that support and contribute to the curriculum.
  • Provide materials and reference services for the completion of class assignments, homework, and for individual personal growth.
  • Provide a pleasant environment for the pursuit of both personal and educational growth.
  • Offer students and faculty support in research and data collection and analysis

Library Hours

The library opens at 7:50 A.M. and closes at 2:45 P.M.  Faculty can request that the library remain open longer or special times.  Class meetings may effect the hours of operation and any change in hours will be announced in the morning and posted on the library door.  During class time, an official pass or note is required to enter the library. A librarian will be available to assist all patrons using the library.

Coming to the Library

Students must have a pass to come to the library during a class period unless the teacher has made other arrangements in advance.  No pass is needed to come to the library before or after school.  Watch the clock before school so you get to 1st period on time!

If a sign on the door says that the library is closed, students should not enter.  Please do not wait in the hall for the library to reopen, just return to class.  Teachers should call the library to be sure it has reopened before sending students again.

Behavior in the Library

Everyone is expected to be courteous and to respect their fellow students, the school staff, the library facility, its furnishings and library materials.

 Checking Out Materials

All materials are checked out at the circulation desk on the computer.

  • BOOKS: Students are allowed to borrow materials for a period of ten school days.  Materials may be renewed unless requested by another person, or if the patron has overdue books.

  • REFERENCE MATERIAL: Students may checkout encyclopedias overnight.  All other reference material is restricted to use in the library.

  • PERIODICALS: Current Periodicals are for use in the library.  Past issues may be checked out for 10 school days.

All patrons are responsible for any books or magazines checked out in their names.  Please alert the librarian to any special circumstances.

You may check out as many books as you can reasonably read.

Reserving Material

If a book or any other library item is not available because it's already checked-out, see the librarian. The item can be placed on reserve. When the item becomes available, it'll be held for you and you'll be notified.

Returns/Renewals

Return library materials on time. Return material through the return slot in the circulation desk.

Material may be renewed (borrowed for another loan period) as long as it is not on reserve.  See the librarian to renew materials.

Overdue Material

No overdue fines are charged.

The due date received at time of checkout is your only notice of when materials are due. Reminder lists and overdue lists will be published periodically.

Students with overdue material will be limited in the number of items they may borrow.

If you have overdue materials at the end of a marking period, your report card will be in the library for pick-up when you return your overdue items.

Lost or Damaged Material

Library users are responsible for the library material they borrow and must pay for lost or damaged items or you have the option to replace the item.  Replacement cost will be charged for lost material.  Report lost or damaged material as soon as possible.

Found Books

If you find any Briarcliff library material, please return it to the library as soon as possible.

Requesting New Materials

Purchase suggestions are always welcome!

Services

Library Media Specialist

The librarian's job is to help library users.  Never hesitate to ask for help!  Always check with the librarian if you can't find something or to be sure you've located the best material.  Remember there is no such thing as a dumb question!!

Computers and the Internet

The library has computers to search the collection, for Internet access, for access to the magazine and newspaper databases, for word processing, and to access CD-ROM references.

Student use of library computers is a privilege, not a right. See the librarian for help using any computer in the library and report problems immediately.

Access to the Internet in our schools is governed by Board of Education policy. School and library rules also apply. See the librarian for permission to use the Internet while in the library.

Copy Machine and Printers

Copy and printing services are available in the library.  Please see the librarian for more information.
