LAKE DRIVE WELCOMES OUR NEW LIBRARIAN / MEDIA SPECIALIST,
MRS. CATHERINE SPRAGUE!

Under the guidance of our new librarian/media specialist, Mrs. Catherine Sprague, the Lake Drive library program will put a strong emphasis on fostering a love of books and storytelling in all of our students.

Lake Drive's library program services children of all ages beginning with preschoolers. The curriculum meets several important needs. First is to familiarize and develop the child's knowledge about literature. Second is to develop information retrieval skills.

Literature is approached through enjoyment. Our focus is on attention skills, comprehension of plots, development of imagination and increasing familiarity with authors and characters. Literature appreciation is fostered through regular borrowing of books and magazines to share at home. As students mature, they learn to identify various parts of the physical book and the story.

Information retrieval is the main thrust of library work. In order to become proficient, students need a variety of methods for finding information. Skills are learned through projects and lectures.
