ACTOR’S WORKSHOP

Deaf and hard of hearing students at Mountain Lakes High School who are not able to take advantage of the mainstream drama club but have an interest in theatre, have a unique opportunity to explore and develop their talents in a club called the “Actor’s Workshop”.

The after school club meets one afternoon a week during the 3rd marking period. Students are able to choose and prepare scenes from stage plays, movies and/or television shows. If a student is not interested in acting but rather in the technical aspects of theatre, they have the opportunity to serve as assistant director or stage manager. Likewise, students with an interest in stage craft can design and prepare our stage.

Each year, we transform the high school band room into an intimate studio theatre and perform on the evening of the High School Spring Arts Festival, complete with interpreters who will sign and/or voice for the performers. We have also had the pleasure of having past graduates return to act as MCs and assistant directors. Every year we are SRO (standing room only) with our audience made up of friends, family, community members, teachers, and mainstream students. The advisors for this activity are Janice Kassel-Petrocco and Marion Clark. Our club logo was designed by Paul Guo, a graduate, who is now pursuing an art major at RIT.
