This exciting Structured Learning Experience for Lake Drive Program's High School students is anticipating a grand opening in October. The students are busy organizing inventory, cleaning, and ordering supplies. They are also training on the cash register, as well as learning the vocabulary of the job. The menu has not yet been sent but plans include the selling of beverages, yogurt, fresh coffee, muffins, and bagels. Hours of operation will most likely be 11:00am - 2:00pm. The students will be involved in all areas of customer service, including sales, preparing menu items, ordering inventory, shopping for supplies, setting prices, and general maintenance and cleaning of the cafe.

This is not a classroom, but a fully-functioning worksite. The students involved are participating in a Structured Learning Experience (SLE), which will give them the opportunity to gain career skills. The goal is to carry over lessons from the classroom into a "real world" worksite.
