MLEF 2007 Annual Campaign

The Mountain Lakes Educational Foundation (MLEF) has been running an annual campaign the last several weeks to request the community's assistance in completing its project begun two years ago of adding Smart board technology to the district classrooms. Smart boards are interactive whiteboards, powered by a computer, allowing teachers to electronically record, store and print classroom notes. They enable teachers to deliver current data from the web to students. To date, eight Smart boards have been installed in classrooms due to the MLEF involvement, serving nearly all students in the district. The following Smart boards have been funded by MLEF since our project was begun.

 High School:  World Cultures

                            Social Studies/James Smith

                            Spanish / Jen Larkin

                            Math/ Rob Downes

Briarcliff :       Deidre Lombardi / 6th grade Math

 Wildwood:      Irene Muka/ Library/Media Center

Darrell Fusco / 5th grade Social Studies

Mark Walters / 5th grade Science

In addition, the MLEF has continued to fund programs and amenities this year that fall outside of the regular curriculum and budget. For the school year 2006-2007, these included:

  • Adult Evening Technology Courses held in the spring for the community.
  • Spectrophitometer for honors/AP chemistry and physics classes.
  • Acoustic electric mandolins and an octave mandolin for the Music department.
  • Equipment for creating wicker and outdoor furniture in woodshop class.
  • Audio recording equipment for digital editing and sound engineering for chorus/strings.
  • American Dance Series for the English department.

We need your help!

Please consider an individual or group donation to ensure that our children continue to benefit from Smart board technology to realize their academic potential. Your contribution to the MLEF Annual Campaign will do just that.

There are three ways for you to contribute and help us reach this goal:

  • Make a donation designated to our general Smart board fund.
  • Designate your donation to a specific classroom Smart board.
  • Make a donation, either alone or with a group, for a specific classroom you designate.

The current cost of each Smart board is $7000. If you make a designated contribution towards a Smart

board but not enough money is raised to purchase one, MLEF will place restrictions on the funds and meet the remainder of the costs through additional contributions raised throughout the year. And, yes, your donation is 100% tax-deductible.

How many donations can you make that touch the educational lives of every single student in our schools? This one does. Thank you so much for your support of the Mountain Lakes Educational Foundation and our work for the community. Your donation will ensure that Smart boards can be in place when students return to school in September.
